My 2018 makeup

As if it has been a year since i last posted. Apologies for being MIA, i’ll blame being at uni. I got a random bit of inspo today after (yet another) makeup clearout – much to my sister’s joy, picking up all my rejects. I noticed that i’ve actually been ‘hitting pan’ on a lot of my products this year, mostly because i haven’t been buying as many and have been making myself actually use what i have (who’d figure). So, I thought i’d do a post about each of these products and give you my two-cents about them and whether i reckon you should pick them up or not.

Flawless 4 Makeup Revolution Eyeshadow Palette

IMG_9591.JPG

Does the state of the shadows show how well-loved this palette has been? I bought this just before 2017 Christmas i think, when i finally gave in to the warm toned trend that doesn’t seem to be going any time soon. This palette honestly is amazing.  For £8 and 36 shades it is at least worth picking it up to try out the warm colours. I find this palette is quite easy to do a soft, neutral look or an over-the-top bold and dramatic look. The softer purple shades are perfect for a neutral look while the red and orange shades are to die for. The palette has amazing shimmers, the gold and champagne being my 2 favourites. Warm toned mattes make it so easy to have a soft (or bold) crease while there are also the perfect base colours and an amazing dark brown and true black. There are perhaps 2 dud shades in this palette whilst the rest are all literally the same quality as Urban Decay. I definitely recommend you pick this one up.

Naked 2 Basics Eyeshadow Palette

IMG_9590.JPG

Speaking of Urban Decay, another product which i’ve hit pan on is this. Whilst i like this for the very neutral shades, Do i think it’s worth £23… not really. It has the same shades you’d find basically in any bigger palette from the likes of MUA or Revolution. The colours blend in nicely together and the grey is a nice outer-corner colour. I like each shade in this and will continue to use it until it’s finished, but i won’t be repurchasing nor do i really recommend it. I also thought that 1 of the 6 shades is very bleh and doesn’t have much use, if it was a bit more pigmented it would be the perfect crease colour, but it’s just an in-between shade that doesn’t have much use.

NYX Highlight and Contour Kit 01

IMG_9588

Back onto a slightly more positive note, i really like this palette. The highlighter in this is so nice. It is quite a natural glow, but with a few coats can be built up nicely to a more dramatic look. The contour colour is the perfect ashy-tone for pale skin and the bronzers are quite nice at warming the skin up. I don’t find much use for the banana powder as my skin is way too pale and there’s a slightly darker glowey shade which i don’t have much use for. You can use the darker shades as nice eyeshadows also as they are quite dark. Do i think this is worth £19, probably, if you reckon you’ll be able to use each shade. They are extremely easy to blend and each are very pigmented.

The Body Shop Bronzer 01

IMG_9592.JPG

I really like this bronzer. It’s a nice one to warm up your skin if it’s a bit paler. It’s not too orangey, the perfect inbetween of warm and neutral. The powder has a lovely honeycomb texture on top and comes in a nice compact with a mirror. Perfect for travelling/your handbag. It costs £14, but i’ve had this for years and have only just hit pan on it. It’s really pigmented and very easy to blend in with the rest of your face makeup. I should also say that i haven’t found any bronzers a lot cheaper that i like as much as this, so worth spending a bit more on.

Boutique bronzer chock-a-block

IMG_9593

This bronzer is one from Sainsburys, for i think £9. It also comes in a lovely little compact with a mirror, perfect size for your handbag. The packaging is also very durable and i’m amazed mine hasn’t broken as i’ve brought this everywhere with me! I love using this as a contour all year round. Whilst the body shop bronzer is more of a summer one, i can use this as a bronzer during the summer but also it gets away with being a more natural sculpted look during the winter. This is so easy to work with and blends in so well. I  recommend this one 100%, whether you have a medium or pale skin tone.

Makeup Obsession C102 Light Contour Powder

IMG_9595

This is the perfect contour shade for pale skin. For £3 you have to try this!!! Although i use the NYX palette for highlighting and contour, i do still really love this and would almost recommend just getting this and an individual highlighter instead of getting the whole palette that NYX offers. This is really pigmented and doesn’t leave any harsh lines on your makeup.

Benefit High Beam

IMG_8010

I got a little gift sized pot in my stocking for Christmas this year, i believe it costs about 5 or 6 pounds. The full sized bottle is £22. I really liked this product. It gave a really nice, natural-looking glow which just makes you look healthy. However, With the amount of brands which have come out with very similar liquid highlights, I don’t think this is really worth the splurge. One which is basically the same product is one by Technic. You can buy it for under a fiver on the likes of amazon, or in bargain shops and it gives you basically the same look. I did really enjoy using this product. it blends in so nicely and it comes in packaging like nail polish, so is easy to use; dab with the brush and blend with your fingertips.

Freedom DuoBrow Soft brown

IMG_9594

This duo is sold for £2 and has lasted me 2 years now. It is the perfect cool-tone for my brown hair and is the perfect pigmentation. This works perfectly either by itself or with a pomade/pencil. (I think Freedom has now been changed to just Makeup Revolution now, so you can get it through them)

Rimmel Scandal eyes felt tip in Black

IMG_9596

I really liked this pen liner, it was really easy to use; the nib wasn’t too stiff nor too flimsy. It had nice pigmentation and was £5.99. It dried up after about 2 or 3 months use, which really isn’t that bad. I would have definitely picked this up again, if i hadn’t found another pen liner which is that bit more pigmented and a similar price (i’ll talk about this in a future post!) The Rimmel pen does however last all day and definitely trumped the L’oreal one.

And those were the products that i have hit pan on/finished in 2018. I hope you enjoyed reading this and perhaps inspired you to pick up one of these faves! I’ll hopefully be posting again soon, much much love,

June Favourites

Hi lovely! Got a wee favourites post for ya today, as we are now at the start of July, where has the year gone?! So i thought i would do a wee monthly favourites for ya. Share with you, my gorgeous reader, what you could perhaps try out…

Think I’ll do a different kind of favourites this month, may as well do a wee chatty-post. So i’ll talk to you just about lots of different things i have enjoyed in June. So, BEGIN::

Came home from uni at the start of June, so really enjoyed being back at home (Northern Ireland); the weather, the accent, seeing my friends again and things along the line of that. Music i’ve been loving last month has been

Overwhelming: Jon Bellion

Hands to myself: Selena Gomez

Slow Hands: Niall Horan

Strip that down: Liam Payne

Alllll of Lorde’s new album Melodrama

I’ve been enjoying having a bullet journal this month especially as it’s just a handy thing to have all of your info together in one place. I might do a post about this in the future, if not though and you’re interested, google/youtube it, lots of info on it. So easy to make and is good just to get your mind all in one place.

Now let’s talk about MAKEUP:

IMG_9441

IMG_9442

So, an ongoing favourite of mine is maybelline’s colour tattoo, creamy matte formula in creme de rose. This is the perfect base for all eyeshadow. My eyeshadow creases without fail when i’m not wearing primers/some kind of base. As well as this though, there are loads of brands that my shadow would still crease with. I don’t have this problem at all when i use creme de rose. This is the perfect neutral base also. As my skin is naturally pink-toned this blends in perfectly. (There is a yellow-toned matte colour tattoo also, if you are more yellow-toned). This is so creamy and blends in so easily, i like to use my finger for this. I would then set this base with a bit of powder/neutral shadow and then proceed with whichever look i want. Absolutely amazing and very long lasting, think i bought this over a year ago now and am yet to hit pan. Absolutely love this.

IMG_9443

Next is a newbie to my collection, E101 BURNT, from Makeup Obsession. I love this shadow for a range of different things. I like to put this in my crease to make a look a lot more bold/warm toned. I like to put it in the muddle of my lid to add colour/depth. For only £2 this shadow is an absolute steal! Should also mention that the pigmentation is perfect and it doesn’t have a lot of fall out either.

IMG_9444

Technic’s Get Gorgeous highlighting powder I can’t not mention this one (again). I use this everyday. I don’t like the OTT highlighter, personally, and this is the perfect powder for a gorgeous natural glow. It’s got a slight pink-tone, but really just adds a naturalish shimmer to wherever you apply. I’ve found that i actually like this being applied with my fingers then blending it out with a powder brush.

IMG_9445

The Body Shop’s Honey Bronzer in Light has found its way back in my makeup bag this summer! I bought this about 2 years ago and each summer that passes i find myself falling back in love with it. This is warm toned, so deffo not to be used as a contour, but it is just light enough to look normal on pale skin! It is such a creamy powder which blends in soooo nicely. Pretty sure this comes in about 3 shades and is about £11. Deffo worth it for the quality.

IMG_9446

So a bit of a story with this product! My (gorgeous, wonderful lovely, thoughtful etc etc etc) boyfriend was in work and sold someone a magazine and then saw that the magazine came with 2 pencils from a brand called ‘Rodial‘. Then saw at the top of the magazine that you would be saving like £27 by getting the magazine. (Rodial is a v high-end brand who knew). So anyway, the wee pet gave me a message and was like ‘would u like this’ and seeing the saving at the top of the magazine i presumed the brand must be v v good and was like ‘yes pls’. So anyway, end of story time. This is the creamiest eyeliner i have ever used. It’s branded as a ‘Smokey eye pen‘. I’ve used this for both a smokey eye and just standard eyeliner. Sooo easy to blend out into a smokey eye; i like to apply a teeny bit to my lower lash line and then blend it out to be more soft. It is sooo easy to work with and i just love it. The other pencil that came with this magazine was a nude lipliner, which is also gorj, will deffo do a post with these 2 products in action in the near future.

IMG_9447

A dupe that i bought like 3 years ago, high lights, from technic has found its way back into my makeup bag. I like to use this when applying my foundation. Basically I pour a little bit into the foundation and mix it on the back of my hand. It just adds a nice natural glow and makes your skin look nice and fresh. (Much prefer this kind of look than the horrible glitter than i end up with on my face when using the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation!!)

IMG_9448

Chit Chat’s black Gel eyeliner is a cheapie, but a goodie. It doesn’t have the best pigmentation, so i do 2 coats, but i’ve found that once it has set it doesn’t move about on the eyes! (A problem which i’ve experienced with many other gel liners) Then the Freedom brow pomade i’ve used a lot in June. Keeps my brows coloured all day and is easy enough to use. I might buy in a lighter shade though, this is a bit dark for moi.

IMG_9449

This Concealer by the brand m (???) in the shade light 2 is perfect for sculpting le brows. Not sure where you can buy this (I bought from a private makeup shop in Belfast), but if you can find it i deffo recommend it. It is sooo pigmented and is really q waxy, so need warm hands to blend out, but it gives such a natural highlight-effect to your face.

IMG_9450

Lastly, Maybelline’s Big Eyes Mascara is again a fave of mine. I’ve repurchased this mascara twice now (something which i rarelyyyy do). This gives my upper lashes soo much volume and length, while the bottom half gives my bottom lashes a bit of definition. Absolutely gorgeous and deffo worth a try.

Not really sure what else i can classify as a ‘favourite’ for the month of June. Hope you’re having a lovely start to your summer! Definitely keep your eyes open for another post i have planned (within the next week) Going to show you my Holiday Makeup Bag!

So thanks for reading this wee favourites post, hope you enjoyed.

Steph xx

A trip to Boots & First Impressions…

Ah, once again i’ve visited the local makeup shop and once again I have bought more makeup. One of these makeup items I was given for my Birthday though, so it’s not like I went completely over the top… Plus as this is my birthday month I get extra points any time I buy something in Boots… Anyway, Lemmie show ya what I got!

IMG_9241

  • Benefit: Ultra Plush Lipgloss – Fauxmance
  • Maybelline: Fit Me Matte + Poreless – 105
  • Sleek: i-Divine – Enchanted Forest
  • Benefit: Gimme Brow – Shade 1
  • Bourjois: Rouge Edition Velvet – 17 Cool Brown
  • Maybelline: Colour Tattoo – 91 Creme de Rose

So i’ll start from the top then!

IMG_9234

Benefit: Ultra Plush Lipgloss – Fauxmance £14.50

So this was the lovely lovely lipgloss that I was given for my Birthday. I had tried Benefit lipgloss with the Dandelion product and absolutely loved it. This is the perfect consistency for me! I love how it isn’t sticky but also not oily. This tastes like grapefruit and has such a lovely colour to it. I like to dab this onto my lips and then blend it in using my finger. Hoping this tube lasts me ages because i’m just in love!

IMG_9235

Maybelline: Fit Me Matte + Poreless – 105 £5.99

Finally, a foundation that is from a trustworthy brand that isn’t a rip off! I’ve noticed recently that lots of brands have been increasing the prices of their concealers and foundations… I thought it was supposed to be highstreet products for highstreet prices?! Apparently not for many brands. I imagine this one is a bit cheaper as it is in a squeezy tube as opposed to a glass bottle. I don’t mind a glass bottle because I like that the pump gives you a good amount of product whereas you have to ‘eye’ it with a squeezy one. However once you are coming to the last of your product in a glass bottle it’s impossible to get it out, unlike a squeezy one where you can cut off the end and get the remainder of product! -Or maybe am I going overboard on the cheapskate? ANYWAY. That’s what I thought of the packaging… But what about the product? This is way more liquidy than any other matte foundation i’ve used, which made it much easier to blend without going all cakey around my nose and forehead. The colour matches my skin really nicely and i’d say it leaves a satin-finish moreso than a matte one. Honestly though, i much prefer that to completely matte because it looks way more natural. 8/8 Maybelline! I will likely be repurchasing this one as it is a good price and a good product! I’ve noticed recently that I don’t actually like a lot of the foundations that I have because i find they go quite cakey on my skin, so I might do a post about my foundations and whether or not I recommend them?

Sleek: i-Divine – Enchanted Forest £8.99

So this was actually what I was looking for when I went to Boots, but of course I couldn’t resist from all the other deals going on! I was looking specifically for a maroon shade eyeshadow, one that would look beauttt in my crease. I’ve heard many amazing things about Sleek eyeshadow palettes, but when brands like Makeup Revolution and MUA do palettes as cheap as £4, i’m more likely to reach for them. But, neither of these brands were doing the shade that I was looking for, so I looked at the Sleek stall. This palette has deep shades of colours not typically seen in your everyday shadow palette. I’m really pleased that I picked this up however as I can definitely see myself making use of these. The shade ‘Anastasia‘ ( 2nd row, 4th across) is the one that I was looking for – kinda (Still on the hunt…) I love each of these shades and can definitely see myself making bold eye looks with these. I think this definitely replaces my Urban Decay palette, the one that everyone got in like 2010… The purple one with the metal beads? If you know it you’ll understand why this is replacing it – these colours are stronger, less neon, more wearable. If you don’t know it click *here* to see it.

IMG_9233

Benefit: Gimme Brow – Shade 1 £18.50

So let me start by bragging… I got this for £4… In fact I bought 2. They were in a magazine that was reduced as it was out of season and I just couldn’t help myself. Again, the boyfriend stood there baffled by my excitement, but i can confidently say that i wouldn’t be the only one basically jumping with glee at this bargain! So what do I think of this? Lol it’s ok. Not overly much to write home about. I do prefer this to the dupe I have for it (I will post about this soon, I swear) but I most definitely will not be paying £18.50 for it when I run out. Maybe £10. I’ll do a full review of this, again in an upcoming post, but i’ll say now that it isn’t worth £18.50 – in my opinion.

IMG_9242

Bourjois: Rouge Edition Velvet – 17 Cool Brown £8.99

In a previous post I was talking about how much I love the Rouge Edition Velvet lip creams from Bourjois. Nothing has changed. When I spotted this brown-nude shade in Boots I couldn’t help but pick it up. If you read the previous post (Click Here) then you will know I found the perfect shade in the Maybelline range, but it didn’t seem to have the same lasting power as the Bourjois range. So this is perfect. I’m in LOVE. This fills in my lips – covers the lipscar which i’m not a fan of – and is a perfect nude shade for me. 8/8, Bourjois! I know £9 seems a bit much for a highstreet brand, but this is deffo deffo worth it. You won’t be disappointed!

IMG_9232

Maybelline: Colour Tattoo – 91 Creme de Rose £4.99

So i’ve posted before about my opinion of the colour tattoos from Maybelline – to sum up, I think they’re OK… I have On and On Bronze and Tough as Taupe honestly, the bronze one isn’t one that I often reach for because I prefer a more cream base to my shadows and the Taupe one, I feel is too dark to use as a base, so i’d only really use it for my brows or as a creamy eyeliner. It’s also weird going from Mac’s creamy Paintpots to this stiffer product – you’d only understand if you’ve used both. I really do hesitate when paying for any product from Mac though. I’d have been happy to buy more colour tattoos had they have been selling more of a range in colours, which they seemed to in America. So anyway, when I saw this I was so excited to use it. This is amazing and makes the shadow stay on all day, increasing it’s vibrancy also as the shade is lovely and light. The perfect base for a good price. I am yet to try wearing this by itself though, I imagine it would stay on without needing set with shadows though as it is a thicker consistency.

Hope you enjoyed this post, thanks for reading! Also, thanks for sticking with me, even when I take like 3 month breaks between posts.  I have some in mind though, so expect some good ones soon! Hope this one wasn’t too rambley for you – unless you like that kind of style!

Much love,

Steff x

May Favourites

So I promised myself, at the start of the year, that I would post monthly favourites each month this year. During the end of May I was focusing on finishing my ‘top 5’ series and forgot all about the Monthly Favourites posts… (My bad!) But, as I always say… Better late than never, eh?

All My Favourites

So I have 10 products and 1 brush to talk about for last month! Some of them are recurring faves and others are new ones!

EYES

My Favourite EyesLeft>>Right

Large angled brush, Makeup Gallery (Nude 2), Maybelline (Big Eyes Mascara), Makeup Revolution (Aqua Seal) Mac (prolongwear paint pot) Catrice (absolute eye colour mono)

So i’ve been loving using a larger angled brush to apply my eyeshadow colour. I find it much easier (& quicker too) to apply my brow colour & shape. I got this as part of a makeup brush set that I purchased earlier this year off ebay.

I have been using my Makeup Gallery (Nude 2) as a base to set my primer and to help brighten up my looks. This is the perfect creamy colour for nude makeup looks. This makeup brand is sold in Poundland (For £1 obviously).

My Maybelline Big Eyes Mascara has been used every day in May! I have loved it so much. It is perfect for long lashes making your lashes look the best you’ve ever been! I apply the upper lash wand from root to tip on my upper lashes, meanwhile I just apply the lower lash wand to the roots of my lower lashes to prevent spidery lashes! This duo mascara is £8.99, but Maybelline often do offers.

Makeup Revolution Aqua Seal primer is one that has been regularly used in the month of May. I found it weird getting used to using this one because i’ve never really used such a liquidy product on my lids! For £3 this is amazing! It is probably the best primer that i’ve ever used also! Makeup Revolution is a new favourite drugstore brand of mine & I recommend it to everyone! 🙂

Mac Prolongwear paint pot in Chrome Angel is one that just can’t be forgotten about in my Makeup routine! I like to use lighter eyeshadow bases to make any colour put ontop of it ‘pop’. Also, because I use matte eyeshadows so often, this helps to lighten up the look… yenno, not make it look so dull? I know that £15.50 does sound a bit steep, but i’ve had this about a year and a half, use it regularly and haven’t even hit pan on it yet! So, not so bad.

Catrice Absolute Eye Colour Mono in Starlight Expresso is the perfect shade to turn any look into a smokey eye. I like to apply this to my crease along with a creamy colour under. I basically use this everyday for a natural eye! I bought this 2 years ago and finally hit pan! This costs around £5 and is worth every penny!

LIPS

My Favourite Lips Left >>Right L’oreal Collection Exclusive, The Body Shop lip butter, The Body Shop stick lip balm, Rimmel Exaggerate lip liner

L’oreal Paris Colour Rich Exclusive Nudes in Juliane is such a lovely nude. It glides on effortlessly just finishing off your look. I love the sleek packaging off this too. This one costs just £6.99 and the exclusive nudes range has 6 different shades, so you’re likely to find the perfect one to suit you!

The body shop lip butter in strawberry is such a nourishing, tasty balm that hydrates your lips in just one use! It is also so creamy and the lip butters come in many different flavours too! This costs £4, but I tend to only purchase the body shop products when on sale (which is often too!)

The Body Shop Born Lippy lipbalm – Strawberry is another perfect lip balm from the body shop. It applies only a little hint of colour, which I like! The scent is strong and is so tasty on the lips. This costs £3, but again, this is often on sale so I only buy it when reduced!

Rimmel London has done it again with another brilliant liner. This one is a lip liner which is the perfect product for under your nude lippy! This is in East End Snob and costs only £3.99. It is so creamy and is perfect for every day lips.

Sugar & Spice Palette

Makeup Revolution is in my monthly favourites again! This ultra blush palette in Sugar & Spice, for £6, has the best blushers that i’ve ever used. They are so soft and creamy to touch and blend so beautifully. You only need the tiniest bit of product on your brush because each shade is so pigmented. In this there are 2 highlighters, 1 contour and 5 blushers.

So those are my favourites of May. I know this was a little late … or very late… but, what can you do?

April Favourites

Can you believe that we are almost half way through 2015? I definitely can’t!

April, where I live, can either be amazing weather or just awful! So my makeup favourites change progressively!

But, I will post the few that i’ve been consistently loving!

WP_20140706_002

Maybelline Big eyes mascara – This is amazing for length & it is perfect for my lower lashes!

download (2)

Rimmel London – Match Perfection : This is the perfect foundation for this time of year! It is so light on the skin, yet it still covers the imperfections!

download (1)

Head & Shoulders Shampoo – I love this stuff! It’s the pink one that i’ve been using recently. I swear to you, this stuff promotes hair growth ( for me anyway!).

23509

Technic Brow Gel – This is a dupe for the Benefit brow gel. I got this for £1.99 on Amazon.co.uk and I love it! I apply this with my own brush as I feel there’s too much on the applicator. Brilliant stuff though!

I’ve been sticking with basic makeup this month as i’ve just been so busy! I’m finished school in a fortnight though, so expect to be seeing a lot of me soon! 🙂

What have your favourites been this month?

My top 5: Palette: MUA Undressed review

So recently I was looking through my stats and most popular posts etc. I noticed that the ‘top 5’ series seemed to be my most popular. So, I thought that I should redo this post! The majority of us makeup/beauty lovers tend to buy new products continuously which makes us find new gems and also some real duds! So I thought I would update this series! (Who knows, maybe I could make it a yearly thing!) So the first of this series will be about eye shadow palettes. I have about 10 different palettes on the go now and I have also thrown many out too! But this isn’t about the duds, this is my BEST 5 that I most commonly use so here we go:

IMG_5764

MUA – Undressed

IMG_5733IMG_5763 IMG_5734 IMG_5736

So this is a gorgeous palette. This is a perfect dupe for Urban Decay’s naked palette. The shadows are each so beautifully pigmented and last a long time too! They apply beautifully – maybe one applies chalky, but i’ll talk about that in a bit! This one costs £4 which, if you ask me, for 12 good-quality shadows is a complete steal! I think that the packaging may be something that puts people off buying this, let’s face it, it looks cheap, but for the products inside priced so cheaply it is a bargain and you should just overlook the packaging!  So now for the shades:

Left>Right Swatches

  • Puff
  • Rose Ash
  • Fawn
  • Gild
  • Hazel
  • Lion
  • Bronze Ore
  • Burnished Brown
  • Tawny
  • Henna
  • Fuel
  • Cool Grey

I love each of these shades except the last 2 – Fuel and Cool Grey. They don’t really suit my eye colour and I find these kinda chalky (might just have been bad luck though). I find Hazel and Tawny both two perfect natural shades! I recommend this for anyone who wants a palette for natural day and night makeup!

I’m gonna do this a little differently than last year, because I have a lot to say about each product I thought it would just be better to do my top 5 as 5 different posts! I don’t like reading long posts, so I don’t like posting them either! So keep your eyes peeled for the other 4. 🙂

Favourites/ Hate its

ok

Maybelline have done it again! I love this foundation! This is a quick swipe-on & blend-in foundation. I love this, very quick very simple and it matches my skin perfectly. I have this one in ‘ivory’. This is concealer and foundation in one stick and gives me medium coverage. Perfect handbag essential!  Sorry I don’t have any swatches or anything, just a quick post today!

But I actually got this for like £3 on a sale in Sainsbury’s!! BRILLIANT. This costs £8.99 in boots, which actually i’m not sure if i’d be happy paying?? But, maybelline always has offers on, so just look out for one and definitely pick this one up! 4/5 for this one (would be 5 but £8.99 is too much in my opinion!)

Thanks for reading! 🙂
