Protect your Skin this Summer!

Hi all, this is a topic which i care a lot about and it completely infuriates me the ignorance people have in relation to it; Any form of skin pigment change is skin damage. Basically, everyone agrees that burnt skin is damaging to your skin, but it’s frightening how few see the same for tanned skin.

Tanned skin is often seen as ‘beautiful’ and desirable, but that golden colour is a result of epidermis injury (the top layer of your skin). Exposure to UV rays accelerates the effects of both ageing and also your risk of developing skin cancer – Neither of which are ‘beautiful‘ or desirable.

So, if that doesn’t scare you enough, how about some statistics?

  • People who first use a tanning bed before age 35 increase their risk for melanoma by 75 percent.
  • Melanoma, the most deadly skin cancer, is now one of the most common cancers in young adults aged 15-34 in the UK.
  • Over 80% of all skin cancers are caused by over-exposure to the sun and/or sun beds
  • Like most cancers, skin cancer is more common with increasing age, but malignant melanoma is disproportionately high in younger people. More than one-third of all cases of malignant melanoma occur in people aged under 55.
  • Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK.

I think 5 will do…

So what can you do to protect your skin?

Basically it’s really simple; Cover up! Obviously when it’s warmer we tend to wear less clothes, so try wearing lighter layers and most importantly, COVER yourself in suncream and do this regularly. Your suncream should be a minimum SPF of 15. If you’re going to be moving about, try a water-resistant one. There are soooo many suncreams you can choose from and in a range of  formulas: Stick, cream & spray. You can get some that smell amazing and others which are scentless!

Some of my favourites are:

Image result for nivea sun cream                    Image result for sun cream garnier

Nivea sun protect & moisture spray   Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Lotion

Image result for stick sunscreenImage result for malibu sunscreen

Neutrogena Beach Defense Stick           Malibu lotion spray (smells amazing)

The kind of rule that i go by is factor 50 on my face, using a cream sunscreen and factor 30 on the rest of my body, either spray or lotion. Also, obviously having a tan is desired by so so many, but you can achieve this safely by getting a spray tan or by using self-tanners. I like to use the gradual ones by brands Dove and Johnsons.

So what if you do get burnt/tanned?

Apply aloe vera onto the damaged skin. Initial research has shown aloe vera aids the skin in healing from sunburns. In addition, aloe vera oil can moisturize the skin, helping you avoid the peeling normally associated with sun damage. I like to keep this in the fridge to make it soo much nicer when applying to burnt/tabbed skin.

Any form of ‘aftersun’ will help moisturise the skin and also cool it down.

Use a good moisturiser.

So i hope this wasn’t too much of a rambly post. Please protect your skin! Hope you have an amazing Summer!

April Favourites/empties

Well hello there! Got a monthly favourite post for ya. Got a good few products which i was loving in the months of Marsh andApril, so let’s see what they were!

I’ll start of with one that i rarely talk about – face and hair products:

No.7 is well known for its brilliant skincare products. I’ve use this cleansing lotion after washing my face with another product (which will be talked about in a post coming up soon) I apply like 10 pumps onto my face, leave it for like a minute to work its magic and then wash off with water and pat dry with a towel. My skin has definitely become much more smooth and this gets off all of my makeup without fail. I’ve been using this every night, mostly to use it up before i go home for Summer. I don’t honestly think i’ll buy another after this is used up however, simply because it’s just an extra step which i don’t overly see the need for.   I’d much rather use a foaming cleanser than a creamy one.

Garnier Ultimate Blends coconut scented shampoo is gorgeousssssss. This lathers up so nicely in the hair and leaves it smelling tropical afterwards. Will deffo be repurchasing next time at the shops, if not this specific one then another from the ultimate blends range.

Finally i used up Neutrogena’s grapefruit facial wash. This is nice enough, lathered up nicely, took my makeup off and left my skin feeling fresh in the shower. I won’t be repurchasing this however, simply because i’ve found another cleanser which suits my skin type better.

Oh my sweet mother of God have i enjoyed each of these products this month??? (yes, yes i have). I’ll start with the highlighter, by technic. This is the best highlighter for pale skin that i have ever used. This is so easy to apply. Whether this be with your fingers, a compact brush or a fan brush, it blends in so effortlessly into the skin and leaves you looking so glowey-from-within. WOW! This was so cheap as well. Deffo deffo recommend to you.

Next i’ll talk about the Boutique bronzer. I got this from Sainsbury’s like last February. I wasn’t overly fussed about it back then though. I picked this back up in about December and fell in love. I think i’ve gotten better at applying this kind of product and now it’s one that i can’t go out without using! Think i got this for about £10, not overly sure. Definitely recommend this though, not too pigmented and easy to work with. Really really love it!

The Maybelline Fit Me stick foundation is the next foundation i have moved on to for me to finish up. Have to say though, it is really very good. It’s a quick and easy product to apply. Just a few swipes on the face, some extra ones in the problem areas and blend out with either my fingers or a beauty sponge. This gives a medium to full coverage (if wanted), which i really like. Deffo recommend this one to people who like a quick product to use. This will be packed for my Summer holiday.

The tools above have been v much enjoyed this month. I like the Real Techniques powder brush to buff in some powder to set the foundation while i like their miracle complexion sponge to give a natural finish to my foundation.

Blurry photo, apologies. Here i have Natural Collection’s brow pencil, Maybelline’s linerefine liner, collection’s supersize fat lash mascara and Miss sporty’s waterproof liquid liner.

Natural Collection’s brow pencil is the best brow product i’ve used, period. £1.99 for the perfect colour, not too waxy and not too stiff; perfect. Think there are 3 shades also, one for blondes, black hair and brunettes.

Maybelline’s linerefine eyeliner is really nice to add to the waterline to smoke it out. Probs won’t repurchase, but nice while it lasts. Just pulls a look together though, nice nice nice.

Lastly Miss Sporty’s waterproof liner is the best liner i’ve ever bought. This is so easy to apply, has the perfect thin nib and the formula is 100% waterproof. Recommend this over any that i’ve tried. This is one of the few products which i am 100% repurchasing; why get something which mightn’t be as good, it’s less than £3?!??!

Collection’s Fat Lash has actually been really nice to use. I bought this a while ago as a 3 for 2 sale in Superdrug because i was out of mascara, so wasn’t expecting overly much. But yaaa, only really need one coat for thick and lengthy lashes. Definitely recommend this to those on a budget.

Since i started to grow my nails i’ve been painting them a good bit. I do prefer just having a nice wash of colour though, nothing too out-there, so soft pinks are my comfort zone. Here are 2, one from rimmel and one from a random company, High Brow. Got both in B&M bargains dead cheap. The highbrow one is more pigmented while the rimmel one is just a wash of colour and adds shine. Like them both though. Recommend both, if you see them about.

OoOoOo, another random one for me! My mum sent me a wee care package around St. Patrick’s Day (yes i’m Irish, so everything was green and chirpy). In this package of green goodies was a vaseline tin. It has been YEARSSSSSSSSS since i used these. In fact, i can tell you how many; 8 years. 8 years ago, when i was at the start of highschool. I just phased out of using this and got more into wearing chapsticks. Have to say though, really been enjoying this. It applies a nice wee bit of shine and is a nice lipstick topper.

Next up is my Marc Jacob’s Daisy perfume. I’ve loved this for yearsssssssss. Haven’t been using a lot of it since going to uni, simply because haven’t overly felt the desire nor need to. This month i have been though, probably because of the brighter mornings and sunnier days. More in the mood!

Lastly is my roll-on deodorant by Dove. Keeps me smelling fresh and dry all day and doesn’t stain my tops. Anything else i need to say?

Lastly is my Revolution 144 Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette Collection. This was mentioned in a previous post in a bit better detail with some swatches earlier this week, read here. As you can see, i’ve done some ‘x’ marks over some eyeshadows, this is so i can remember which i like the most. Working my way through the palette quite well, especially in these brighter days, just motivating me to wear shimmery and glittery shadows.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd those were my favourites. What have you liked these past few months? Have you tried any of these products? What did you think?

Thanks for reading,

Update & Haircare

So, don’t know if you’ve noticed, I have been posting everyday for the past fortnight. This is crazy, for me anyway. I always mean to do daily posts, but never seem to find the time. But, it is now that I have the time. And I plan on doing a post everyday for 4 weeks/28 days. I’ve been getting incredible feedback from my readers & even some new readers, so I’m really pleased and am even more determined to keep going!

For the first 2 weeks I posted about all things makeup. So I have a PLAN! The first 2 weeks is makeup, this week is hair and next week will be body! I hope you enjoy these upcoming posts. 🙂

My Haircare Routine

s-l300

So, just a short post today about what i’ve been using on my hair. It was early March that I bought TRESemme moisture rich shampoo and conditioner. I got these for like £2.20 each at Tesco. I was determined to use these 2 products every time I washed my hair. I’m the kind of person who has like 3 different shampoos in her bathroom and uses a different one each time, depending on what smell I want or whatever.

I was with my friend, Ciara, at the time also and I was going to just buy the shampoo. Ciara urged me to pick up the conditioner too, saying how she always uses conditioner. As I would typically use just whatever was in the house, and there wasn’t typically any conditioner, I didn’t think to pick it up. But, I did and it must be said that this duo has worked wonders on my hair. I will definitely continue to buy the matching conditioner when purchasing shampoos in the future!

I have used this and only this since March, only had to go and repurchase them now, 5 months later. It has kept my hair strong and healthy. The smell of this is just like the ones you get in hair salons. Reallyyyyy nice. The shampoo lathers really nicely and the conditioner sinks into the hair quickly. I leave the conditioner on my hair whilst washing my body and rinse it off at the end of the shower. I’d say it’s left in for 3-5 minutes. My hair always feels strong and smooth after a shower and does so for 2-3 days after until I wash it again.

The only 2 hair brands that I have found leave my hair feeling really good is TRESemme and Elvive Nutrigloss Luminiser. However, the Elvive one has been repackaged, so possibly reformulated as well, so it may not work on my hair anymore. Another point to consider is that Elvive you pay £3.99 for the shampoo and you only get 400ml. Whereas with TRESemme you pay £2.49 for 900ml. -You do the maths.

Although I like brands like Pantene, Herbal Essences and Aussie, I just don’t feel like it does much good for my hair. Yes they smell nice, but my hair just feels normal/brittle.

So what shampoos/conditioners do you like to use on your hair? Comment below, i’m interested to know what works for others!

Quick Tip: Instantly Soft after the Shower

Ever get when you leave the shower and your legs are almost flaky from your shave? Not so much flaky, but the opposite of soft. Well, I have the solution to this! You don’t need to go out and buy some ridiculously over priced shaving foam, nor an intense body moisturiser that takes YEARS to sink into the skin. All you need is baby oil.

oil yo.jpg

I know what you’re thinking, ‘Baby Oil would surely take longer than moisturiser to sink in?’ That is right. Yes, baby oil would take ages to sink into your skin after you have dried off. My solution is, just after you have shaved in the shower, get your baby oil (whilst you are still in the shower), and rub it onto your legs. Do this in circular motion. Let this rest on your legs whilst you wash your hair, shave under your arms, wash your body, sing some Beyonce etc etc. Once you have finished with the rest of your shower routine, get out of the shower as normal. Get a lovely soft towel and dab/pat your legs with this. This will take off any excess oil.

I’m telling you, once you are all dry, you will have the softest legs in the world. I randomly did this about 2 or 3 months ago and was amazed at how genius it was. I would only have used baby oil at night time previously as it takes so damn long to sink in, but I would always be very happy with the results! I’d say this works (I am just guessing, I am no scientist) because you have just agitated the skin and opened up the pores in the warm shower, so your legs are dying of thirst and this oil quenches it perfectly. By keeping your legs moisturised after a shave it helps to reduce the chance of getting those awful ingrown hairs.

To get even softer results you can moisturise after this and i’m telling you, you will be stroking yo legs all day!

Hope you enjoyed this tip! I’d love to know if you have any soft skin secrets? Share below!

Gimme Brow – Is it a Dupe?

So recently Benefit have released a new range of brow products, also repackaging for their well known and loved ‘Gimme Brow’. Since the original release of the Gimme Brow, many brands have been creating their own versions, but which are as good?

I’ve tried brow gels from 3 different brands, Maybelline master drama brow gel, Technic brow gel and Essence brow gel and a few different clear gels – Collection did one with their brow powders and it was really good. I may do another post about these ones, but for this I will focus on the Essence one.

So one that i’d say is mostly known as a dupe for the gimme brow is ‘Make me brow‘ from essence. So as I have both I thought i’d do a wear/compare!  The Essence ‘Make me brow’ is £2.50 while Benefit ‘Gimmie Brow‘ is £18.50

Swatch L>R: Make Me Brow, Gimmie Br0w

Realistically, when on the brows, they are very similar. But the Gimmie Brow has a much better hold and staying power and i feel it fills the brows in a bit better. But if what you’re looking for is just to set your brows and fill them in a tad, absolutely just get the Make me Brow, you’d be saving £15! Although I do like the Benefit one, I most certainly will not be paying £18.50 for a tiny product. No way.

So I hope you enjoyed this post & i’d love to know if you know of any good dupes for this product!

Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette

So recently I got the Naked Basics 2 palette, typical, just after I swear i’m finished buying eyeshadow palettes! The packaging says. ‘Use these six indispensable shadows alone or as the starting point for ANY look. Cooler in tone than our original Naked Basics Palette, this taupe-hued palette features five never-before-seen matte shades for lids, crease and liner, plus one demi-matte shade that’s perfect for highlighting.’ So it would seem as though this palette has it all!

IMG_9162IMG_9166IMG_9165

The packaging is very compact and has a mirror which fits the lid. Its shadows are about 5mm apart, so they will remain separate. It closes with the satisfying ‘click’ also, so there are no worries that the shadows will get wrecked in your makeup bag. It feels very luxury with the matte-plastic casing.

IMG_9167The shadows are so lovely. They are all amazingly pigmented and are so buttery to apply. They are very easy to blend without looking’muddy’ also! The ‘demi-matte’ shade, ‘SKIMP’, is so lovely to use as a base and also a highlight for just below the brow and the inner corner! For my crease I love ‘FRISK’ and then the outer corner ‘UNDONE’ is perfect to intensify the look. I use the other colours and blend them in on my lid also.

So, lastly, here are a few looks I have created using the palette over the past few days.

I 100% recommend this palette for girls with darker eyes. I bought it off Feel Unique for £20 (Student Discount, it’s usually £23.)

So have you used the palette? Are there any colours which you have dupes for? I’d loooove to know!

What do you think?

So I enjoy doing series’ on this because I often am absolutely clueless about what to write about! There’s the monthly favourites each month, but then what? To make your blog memorable and unique it’s best to have your own way of doing things. Some beauty bloggers do ‘weekly roundups’, some do different kinds of hauls and the list goes on!

But then what about all the other bloggers?! They post poems, stories and just fill you in on what they’ve been doing day-to-day! I would at some stage maybe like to do a little bit about my life and what my hobbies are, what I do in my spare time… maybe even a little bit about my past and even what I hope to do in the future?!

So what different series’ have I done?

Well i’ve done the my top 5, which I think many people enjoyed! I’ve done a few tutorials and different ‘looks of the day’ also.

What am I thinking of doing?

Well, for the typical beauty part of my blog, I’m thinking of doing whole collections: Lipglosses, eyeshadows etc. I would be showing the different products that I have gotten over the years and what I think of them/ if i’d recommend them etc. Maybe more looks, what I do with different products – like 5 looks using the maybelline colour tattoo shadows.

But i’ve been considering doing the more lifestyle posts too, things including the likes of:

  • fashion
  • hairstyles
  • recipes
  • art
  • music
  • teenage-related-ramblings
  • books
  • photography
  • school

I have so many stories to tell, things that you might enjoy reading too! I completely understand if it’s more just the beauty-related posts that you’re interested in, after all, that is what i’ve been doing for the past year. So I will continue to do my beauty blogging, but maybe keep an eye out for the wider range of topics that I will be doing in the near future!

If you have any suggestions about what you would like to read from me, I would be really grateful to hear them! Whether this be about beauty, life or just completely random, I’m dying to hear what you would want to read!! 🙂

Look out for my changes! I hope to hear from you, thanks for reading this rambley post! And here’s a little sample of what my photography posts may look like!:
