Cosmopolitan’s hot for Spring & Summer

So i thought it would be cool to see what the fashion and beauty lords (Cosmopolitan) were saying was ‘in’ this Spring/Summer. I’m not one to typically follow these trends, no not in a ‘hipster’ kinda way, more just of an ‘i know what suits me and what doesn’t’ kinda way. But, i’ll look through what is ‘in’ this and next season and see if there’s anything i can try! As there are 60 different looks, i think i’ll just comment on the 10 things which interest me.

So, #1 Shiatzy Chen

Basically applying glitter under the eyelids. Honestly, i think this just looks a bit naff – even on the model. Maybe a bit of glitter under a cat-flick eyeliner look, but definitely not beneath my waterline.

#2 Missoni

Have to say i actually really like this idea, i did it a while ago, may do it again this Summer! Cute way to add interest to your hair! I’d only really do little braids though, not really as big as this model has them.

#3 Fendi

 Glitter lips?!?! Nooooo. How uncomfortable?!

#4 Blurmarine

Basically, lots of glow! All for this, especially for Summer/Spring time. Have to say i much prefer glow to glitter highlighters.

This is basically just having dark lips during the warm months. Not sure about this one, bit much for the brighter days, no? Maybe more of a night time look?

#6 Giambattista Valli

Basically, clean-cut red lip with minimal makeup. Have to say i quite like the look of this. Perhaps shall try this with a cherry red lip and copper shadow.

#7 Elie Saab

I loooove this look! Basically, outer third of the eye lined with a bit of a cat flick. Will deffo be trying this.

#8 Givenchy

Going to do a big ‘HM’ here. Don’t get this at all, looks a litttttle bit ridiculous, no?

#9 Luisa Beccaria

Really like this minimalist look with just a swipe of shimmer on the lids. Will give this a go. I imagine with this i would do big lashes.

#10 Moncler Gamme Rouge

I like the concept of this glossy minimalist look, but not she looks a bit dead? Maybe with a bit of a pinky lip or something?

So those were 10 of the 60 looks found in Cosmo’s Spring/Summer 2017 hair and makeup trends. Maybe i’ll do another post of the way i tried out some of these looks! Hope you enjoyed reading this one, are there any looks that you like the look of?

Quick Haircare Tip

So over the past few months I have been horrible to my hair. I’d almost say that I’m may hair’s worst enemy to be honest. If you’ve ready my recent post, about going from brunette to blonde back to brunette then you’ll understand to the extent that I mean when I say that my hair is dead. It is so frizzy and weak now. *sigh*.

So what tips I got for people who are in a similar situation or just want their hair to feel 10 times better? I have a few tips. My number 1 tip is, Stop washing it. No, I don’t mean completely. I mean those days when it is just you lounging about the house… don’t wash it. When you’re about day 3 of not washing and you’re starting to feel a bit gross… Put it in a pony tail/loose bun. And lastly the day when your hair has gotten really gross, put some oil in it, from root to tip. I recommend Coconut, Argan or Virgin Olive oil. Let this sit in your hair for a minimum of 10 minutes, any time after that is up to you; I personally tend to leave this in over night. I then wash it out with a moiturising shampoo or conditioned. I did a post about my favourite 2 recently, click *here* to read this.

After this just repeat the above steps. You will see your hair slowly start to look and feel better. The natural oils that your scalp produces is one of the best things for your hair.. and it’s completely free! Let your hair soak up these oils. Let it look a little gross.. for a little bit. It isn’t even noticable when in a loose bun anyway!

So I hope you found this post helpful and I hope you get good results, like I have, if you try this tip out!

Quick Haircare Tip

A really easy way to lessen the amount of heat you put on your hair is to shower at night. I’ve been doing this for yearssss – especially during the school months as it saves precious sleeping time in the morning.

After I shower at night time, I towel dry my hair, dry my body, moisturise and get into my jammies. I brush through my hair with the holy tangle teezer *see here* and then either put it in a loose bun or braid it. By doing this it gets it out of the way and also avoids friction between your head and the pillow, resulting possibly in split ends.

By the time it is morning your hair will be dry and you can then style it how you want. I tend to just leave it as my hair naturally dries curly. If you have straight hair and want natural-looking curls, I recommend leaving your hair in 2 braids over night.

A really simple, but game-changing tip when it comes to hair. I find that if I just leave my hair to air-dry, throughout the day, it tends to just go frizzy. But by having it in a bun/in braids it prevents this from happening!

Hope you try this one out and get just as good results as I do!

Much love,

Update & Haircare

So, don’t know if you’ve noticed, I have been posting everyday for the past fortnight. This is crazy, for me anyway. I always mean to do daily posts, but never seem to find the time. But, it is now that I have the time. And I plan on doing a post everyday for 4 weeks/28 days. I’ve been getting incredible feedback from my readers & even some new readers, so I’m really pleased and am even more determined to keep going!

For the first 2 weeks I posted about all things makeup. So I have a PLAN! The first 2 weeks is makeup, this week is hair and next week will be body! I hope you enjoy these upcoming posts. 🙂

My Haircare Routine

So, just a short post today about what i’ve been using on my hair. It was early March that I bought TRESemme moisture rich shampoo and conditioner. I got these for like £2.20 each at Tesco. I was determined to use these 2 products every time I washed my hair. I’m the kind of person who has like 3 different shampoos in her bathroom and uses a different one each time, depending on what smell I want or whatever.

I was with my friend, Ciara, at the time also and I was going to just buy the shampoo. Ciara urged me to pick up the conditioner too, saying how she always uses conditioner. As I would typically use just whatever was in the house, and there wasn’t typically any conditioner, I didn’t think to pick it up. But, I did and it must be said that this duo has worked wonders on my hair. I will definitely continue to buy the matching conditioner when purchasing shampoos in the future!

I have used this and only this since March, only had to go and repurchase them now, 5 months later. It has kept my hair strong and healthy. The smell of this is just like the ones you get in hair salons. Reallyyyyy nice. The shampoo lathers really nicely and the conditioner sinks into the hair quickly. I leave the conditioner on my hair whilst washing my body and rinse it off at the end of the shower. I’d say it’s left in for 3-5 minutes. My hair always feels strong and smooth after a shower and does so for 2-3 days after until I wash it again.

The only 2 hair brands that I have found leave my hair feeling really good is TRESemme and Elvive Nutrigloss Luminiser. However, the Elvive one has been repackaged, so possibly reformulated as well, so it may not work on my hair anymore. Another point to consider is that Elvive you pay £3.99 for the shampoo and you only get 400ml. Whereas with TRESemme you pay £2.49 for 900ml. -You do the maths.

Although I like brands like Pantene, Herbal Essences and Aussie, I just don’t feel like it does much good for my hair. Yes they smell nice, but my hair just feels normal/brittle.

So what shampoos/conditioners do you like to use on your hair? Comment below, i’m interested to know what works for others!

Thanks for reading,

Argan Oil – Review

So I bought some Argan Oil just over a week ago today. I got it in B&M bargains for £1.49. I’ve been trying this out since the purchase and i’ve got a few things to say about what it’s like, if it works, how it makes the hair look etc.

The Consistency of this is what it says on the tin, it’s an oil. Some products which are advertised to have Argan oil in them have more of a serum consistency but this, it would seem, is pure and simple Argan oil.

How much I use is only 2 or 3 squirts. I apply this mostly to the ends of my hair, then as there is less product in my palms I work it up to the roots. This seems to cover my hair nicely. The packaging itself recommended 4-5 pumps, but perhaps this is for much longer hair.

When do I use this/ when does it work best? I’ve tried using this on both wet and dry hair. As I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week now, I have used it more in dry hair than wet. I don’t honestly like how it leaves my hair looking/feeling when it is in dry hair. It leaves a heavy feeling with a greasy look. When I am applying my heat protection spray I then apply this. My hair dries with a nice glossy finish and it also doesn’t weight it down when applied this way.

What does this do? Well, when applied to wet hair I definitely feel that it helps fight a frizzy finish after blow drying it. I’m yet to try it when I let my hair dry naturally, so i’m not sure if it leaves a greasy finish when doing this – perhaps I will give an update in the future.

Will I continue to use this/ Do recommend this to you? I will use this after washing my hair, yes.I would recommend this to those with frizzy, thicker hair. I assume this would leave those with thinner/very short hair with a horrible, weighed down feeling.

So out of 8, 8 being gr8, I rate this 6/8.

So I hope this review was helpful & possibly entices you to purchase this product, if you feel it is right for you. Are there any hair oils/serums that you use? Comment below your favourites!

Going from Brunette to Blonde… to Brunette again

So my hair has been facing a lot of chemicals in the past 3-4 months. I went from dark brown to bleach blonde in the space of like… a week and then maintained this for 2-3 months and am now back to darker hair.

So, how did I do it? What products did I use? How did I look after my hair? There are so many questions I will be answering in this post, so sit back, get a cup of tea/coffee and enjoy!

I nipped into Superdrug after a coffee date with my lovely boyfriend and my eyes were hunting for a bleach that my friend had recommended to me. I selected what I thought the matching product was, but when I got home I found that it wasn’t – oh well.

I’ve bleached my hair before and it wasn’t a great experience. I was an elegant blinger (blonde ginger, really not an attractive look)  for about a while and then gave in and went brunette again. So I knew what to expect this time, but now I knew more about blonde hair and how to get the shade you want.

Unfortunately I wasn’t planning on doing this post when I first bleached my hair, so I don’t have the boxes of dye anymore. But, I will show you an online picture of the products used. So, when in Superdrug I picked up 2 of these Superdrug Performance Natural Ash Blonde bleaches.  – as seen above.

I followed the instructions provided on this bleach and was hugely disappointed after I did a strip test (when you get a part of your hair and test the bleach on it). There didn’t seem to be much/any colour change in this. So, I went with it anyway and put it on all of my hair, after the strip test, and then rinsed it out after the maximum recommended time.

Disaster, I was that horrible blinger again:

So, two days later, I used the second box of bleach. Again, disappointment, as seen above in the second 2 images.

Luckily my hair didn’t have the straw-like texture that bleached/damaged hair typically does though. I have my hair care routine to thank for that I guess.

Smart Blonde

I ordered a batch of 3 of the correct bleaches, the one my friend recommended. She had told me that she only needed to use one and her hair went to the right shade of blonde that she wanted – bleach blonde. Her hair was the same colour as mine-ish, so I expected the same results. This was the Smart Blonde Bleach, as seen in the picture above.

I know this product looks quite quite dodgy, but I can honestly say this works. It comes with the bleach and a toner for afterwards. After one use of this I was more of a yellow-ey blonde. I would just need to use a toner after this to get the colour wanted.

Before my delivery of the bleaches had arrived, I went to the local Savers to get a bottle of toner. It was here that I noticed they were selling the Smart Beauty bleach there also, so I picked one up. That day I used it and got the yellowey colour in my hair. Photos below:

I think I probably bleached my hair again after this, like maybe a week or two after. It was at this stage that it all wet downhill.

I put different colours in my hair: Purples, Reds, Blues etc. The one colour that ruins bleached hair is blue. If you don’t want you bleached hair to permanently – or so it would seem anyway, have a blue tint to it, then please don’t use any blue in your hair. I put a dash of blue in a section of my hair and after that it was impossible to get it out.

I had tried to start fresh by rebleaching my hair, in hopes that the blue would come out… Nope. All of my hair turned a slight blue tint. Ghhhhh. Anyway, I chose to ignore this and continued to tone my hair and whatnot. At times I liked the way it looked and other times I didn’t.

As a 19 year old, the last Summer before I go to uni, I wanted to get a Summer job to earn some money to make the most out of my Summer. I had applied for the job that I worked in last Summer, where the boss had even said they would want me back for Christmas/Summer. After my interview, I got no call back. I kinda blame my hair for that – not to seem petty or whatever, but yea. I guess the blue-tinted bleach blonde doesn’t scream professional. So, I then went on to try to dye my hair a more natural blonde shade.

I went to the brand, Nice’N’Easy for this. I bought 3 different dyes:

Natural Light Ash Blonde Permanent

Natural Extra Light Beige

Rich Dark Brown

The conditioner that comes with each of these is amazing. As I had 2 interviews within 3 days I decided it was time to start with going a more natural shade of blonde. So, I started by using the lighter of the two blondes on my hair. The Light Ash one. This did nothing to my hair.

Disappointed, I went and bought the brunette one and the other blonde one. I hadn’t planned on going back to brunette until I was going to leave for uni. I wanted to go a more natural blonde for the rest of the Summer.

When I used the other blonde shade it turned my hair a blue-grey. And, of course, the blue strip was still there. Ahhh disappointment. Seen Below:

That same day I decided to say ‘fuck it’ and just put the brunette on. I know you aren’t supposed to dye your hair with clean hair, but I couldn’t go to an interview with blue/gray hair.

It was weird to see my hair so dark again – and that’s what it was, dark. After a couple of washes it looks like a more me-colour. I’m happy with my hair again. Finally.

So Qs and As:

Does bleach ruin your hair?

No and yes. Your hair will inevitably be weaker each time you bleach. You’re stripping away its natural pigment. The cuticle keeps opening until it’s so open that nothing holds it together, the disappearing cuticle layer is just the first step until finally, the cortex becomes exposed, split ends appear, and hair breaks. Your hair will be much more brittle and thinner. If you use moisturising shampoos and deep conditioners every time you wash your hair, you will notice that the hair slowly feels stronger. I used coconut oil at night time to help it feel better. Also, wash your hair way less. Your natural oils are a miracle on the hair. Although your hair is technically much much weaker, you will be able to make it feel better/nicer/stronger over time.

Do you use toner & how often?

I did use toner. I bought one bottle and thought that it would be q easy to make my own. This can be done with conditioner and either purple hair dye or purple food dye. I have to admit that the food dye toner actually seemed to work better. My own toner left me with the best results also. I used it when I felt my hair was going to a shade that I didn’t like. -Should be used on brassy/yellow tones.

Will I go blonde again?

Not the blonde that I went, no. It was fun going a crazy colour, for over the summer. But, realistically, if I want to be a Primary School Teacher it isn’t very suitable. I may go a nice ashy blonde though as I did enjoy having blonde hair.

So I hope you enjoyed this post. Happy to answer any questions you might have, just comment them below. 🙂

Much love,

September Favourites & Catch Up!

So how many more posts am I going to start with my “i’m so sorry about the lack of posts etc.”?! I swear, this will be the last one….

So how have you been? I’ve been fantastic! These past 3 weeks have been crazy! So what’s new with me?

I’ve started a work placement at a local primary school & I love it!

Just sent of my uni application forms

Went to see Fallout Boy?!

Got a job at TK Maxx

Been having fab lil nights with my girrrrls!

I’m going to Liverpool this weekend

I’m going to Scotland (TO SEE MY BFFFF) at the end of this month for 3 nights (Might do a travel makeup post?)

Lotsa fam parties at the end of this month which i’m buzzin for!

There are a few more things, but i’ll not blab too much!

So what makeup have I liked?

For my face;;

The Bourjouis healthy mix foundation has been looking mighty fine on my face. This looks so nice and dewy on my skin! It applies easily, smells unreal and lasts a reasonable amount of time! I have also been using the Real Techniques beauty sponge and it is so nice. I dampen the sponge and apply in a dabbing motion. This works with any liquid foundation and leaves such an amazing result! Throw out your brushes and replace it with this! Pretty sure it was only about £5 too! To finish off my face i’ve been using Makeup gallery feeling blush blusher on my cheeks. I love the soft red this gives to my face. This is the perfect Autumnal shade.

Hair & Nails

For my hair I’ve been using Jo Baz’s Caffeine Shampoo. This stuff smells realllly nice! I could also (almost swear that) this stuff has made my hair grow faster. -But it may also be because i’m crazy… For nail polish i’ve been using Maybelline’s Sidewalk Strut nail polish. This is such a lovely warm gray! This is so easy to apply as it dries so quickly. Only annoying thing is that it chips so quickly.

Lashes & liner

So i love this MAC mascara sample that I got. It’s the False lashes in extreme black. This makes my eyelashes hugeee! So easy to apply too. Will I buy it in the bigger size? For now, no. When the product runs out i’ll reuse the brush with a cheaper formula. I’ve been using the NYC High Definition liquid eyeliner in soft black. This creates such a slim line on my eyes and it stays on all day.

IMG_7060 IMG_7052 IMG_7053 IMG_7055

So I love lipstick now! I got my first mac lipstick in ‘DIVA’ and it is such a brilliant vampy colour! This is a very matte lipstick. I prefer to wear lipbalm underneath it to give it a smoother application. This is soooo pigmented! Here’s a few pictures with me wearing it!

red lipsss

The other lipstick I’ve been loving is ‘wine’ by the brand Autograph. It is a more red toned lipstick! It is so moisturising on the lips and leaves a shiny red finish. I don’t have any pictures with it on though, sorry!

As a last update I’ll tell you about my new hairstyle! (As of Monday haha) I was standing infront of the mirror and was thinking ‘dammit hair why can’t you sit nicely what’s your deal?’ Then I just got a pair of scissors and cut myself a lil fringey! I really like it & feel all floopy!

IMG_20151005_072042935 My poses are 100% Vogue.

Hopefully i’ll be doing one or two halloween posts and then some party looks! Hope you are having a wonderful Autumn!

Hopefully talk soon,
