Liquid Lipsticks: My thoughts

So recently liquid lipstick have been becoming more popular in budget beauty brands, so I couldn’t help but pick a few up from different brands and give them a try! Superdrug is currently doing 3 for 2 across all makeup brands whilst Boots are doing a few different offers, including 3 for 2 on specific brands or money off products – including liquid lipsticks!

I’ve tried a few different liquid lipsticks over the past few years but have only recently found some that i’ve thought much of. I’ve tried from brands such as Collection, MUA, Revolution, Sleek, Maybelline and Bourjois. Some I have thrown out because I just didn’t get along with though, so can’t do swatches for all. I can give a short review on those that I don’t have anymore though!

Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid 35 Rebel Red, 50 Nude Thrill, MUA Whipped Velvet Rococo, Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquer Black Heart, Sleek Matte Me 436 Birthday Suit, Bourjois Rouge Edition 15 Red-volution, 07 Nude-ist.

Collection Cream Puff Lip Cream: Powder Puff & Fairy Cake

This was the first liquid lippie that I bought, for £2.99. I got this like 2+ years ago, before liquid lipsticks had become a thing in Boots/Superdrug. I didn’t really understand how to use these nor how to wear them, so I quickly lost interest as I was more into moisturising lipsticks at the time, not these matte liquid ones. I do remember though that these smelt nice and that I liked the colour of Powder Puff a lot, it was a soft nude. Unfortunately I must have thrown these out though as I can’t find them anywhere in my collection. Perhaps I’ll repurchase, but perhaps not also as i’ve found some really brilliant ones from other brands and this was just OK.

MUA Whipped Velvet: Rococo

The price of this was £3. I think i’ve even done a review about this before on my page, saying how disappointed I was with it. It was the 2nd liquid lipstick that I had bought, so after that I had low expectations of liquid lipsticks, discouraging me from trying more. This is so strange. It has a horrible sickly sweet smell mixed with the baby powder scent??? The colour of this is nice, a soft pink pastel colour, but because the product itself is so creamy and powdery – like a matte foundation almost, but more liquidy – it doesn’t apply smoothly, but with horrible streaks. Doubt this stays a long time either – if you somehow manage to apply it nicely. All-in-all, a complete miss from MUA. This is the product at the top of the photograph.

Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquer: Black Heart

This one was also sold for £3. This was the 3rd lacquer that I had tried and again I was disappointed – not going well! I tried this January time in the shade Black Heart. When I was swatching the different lippies in the shop there were samples for all shades except this one. I liked the one a shade lighter than this one, but I thought I could go for the darker one because there aren’t many drugstore options for dark ones. The smell of this is horrible. A really chemical smelling one, kinda like pen ink/ hair dye??? I mixed this with lipbalm to try and sheer it out a bit because I like the colour, it’s just way too intense for moi. When I did it was nice, but slipped and slid about way too much. It also goes very flaky when you apply just a little bit and smudge it out. Not what I was expecting from a liquid liner unfortunately. I may try more of these from this brand though, just in a more wearable shade. This is the product at the bottom of the photograph.

Sleek Matte Me: 436 Birthday Suit

After the disappointing 3, named above, I was in Tesco in March and there was a sleek counter. This was around the time that more brands were releasing their own matte lip creams, so I thought i’d give it a try for £4.99. A neutral nude shade, so what could go wrong? Absolutely nothing, I really loved this. It is the perfect nude with a brown undertone to it. It’s a Kylie Jenner kinda colour. This applies easily and dries matte. This stays on all day, maybe 1 or 2 touch ups, but only if you’re rubbing your lips or whatever. This stays on with eating, drinking and there’s no transfer when kissing either! It does have that dried feeling on your lips, but you get used to this pretty quickly. V good product!

Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick: 50 Nude Thrill & 35 Vivid Red

50: I’ve found the lipstick that i’ve been looking for for years! This is my lips but better. Finally. I’ve only had this a day, so haven’t been able to wear it a full day yet, but it has a nice satin finish – not matte. I’ve found though, dabbing it with a tissue makes it dry matte, if this is what you prefer. I’ve read reviews saying that this does stay on 8-12 hours with no reapplication, so hopefully! If not, it’s a nude shade, so not a big deal if it does go a bit patchy. I think that this will quickly become my ‘go-to’ lipstick when I don’t want to wear a bold one. Gorgeous shade that I recommend to all! 35: This is a nice true-red lipstick. It’s easy to apply and gives you a strong, bold lip. Really beautiful shade and I look forward to wearing this with a strong winged liner. These cost £6.99. As seen in the photograph, this applicator is a stretched out doe foot applicator.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet: 07 Nude-ist & 15 Red-volution

I wore 15 Red-volution last night when out at a bar with friends. This involved eating and drinking and it stayed on all night. Annoyed the hell out of my boyfriend as I kept asking if it had worn off, but it seemed to stay on all night! I reapplied it once, after I’d eaten a burger, but it didn’t really need it. This is a gorgeous berry red with blue undertones. This was £8.99, which is a bit pricey, but for such a lovely product! Haven’t tried 07 yet, but it’s a nice nude with a more pinky tone to it. This wore more comfortably than the sleek liquid lippie also. This is a doe foot applicator, which makes applying it with no mirror a bit easier!

Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid 35 Rebel Red, 50 Nude Thrill, MUA Whipped Velvet Rococo, Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquer Black Heart, Sleek Matte Me 436 Birthday Suit, Bourjois Rouge Edition 15 Red-volution, 07 Nude-ist.

So I hope you enjoyed this post and i’d love to know what you think of liquid lippies! Have you tried any brands that I haven’t Any that you do/don’t recommend? Leave a comment! 🙂

Trying it out: Natural Lip Mask

I feel as though I should make you, the reader, aware of how dedicated I am as a blogger. (Half-assed blogger, but heyho) So i’m sitting typing this up with a lip mask on my lips, to tell you my FIRST IMPRESSIONS of this concoction.

So, what am I talking about? I always have dry lips. I basically always have lip balm on (Yes, I know this is why I always have chapped lips), but if I don’t have any on i just feel as though my lips are really dry! While looking up different lip masks that I can buy, I came across some home remedies that I can try out!

*Oooop, there goes the timer, better wipe it off*

Anyway, yes! So, would I rather spend like £15 on a lip mask or spend £0 and whip up my own? -Hmmm

So, What do you need?

  • 1 tsp of coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp of honey

Why do you need these 2 ingredients?

The coconut oil restored the lipid layer to the skin and is also an anti-inflammatory whilst the honey is moisturizing and also an antibacterial. Another reason why these are better ingredients is that they are natural, cheap & also edible!

How do I use this?

So you get a little tub and mix together the two ingredients using a little spoon until it turns into a creamy yellow paste. You then get some of the paste onto the back of a teaspoon and apply it to your lips and the skin around it. You then leave it on your lips for about 5 minutes and then wipe it off/lick it off.

aaaand whoala!

  • What do I think of it? Well I just took it off and, admittedly, my lips are definitely softer!
  • Do I recommend it? Definitely the quickest lip softening product that i’ve used!
  • Out of 10? Well The taste isn’t great, but really, for 5 minutes, why does it matter? So I give this one about a 9/10!

Hope you enjoyed reading and i’d love to hear about your lip remedies! Goodluck if you try this one out!

Much much love,

Steffff x

Lip Shopping

I can’t help but try and find ‘the perfect’ of each makeup product. I’ve found the perfect mascara, the perfect eyeliner, i’ve found the perfect contour and i’ve found the perfect brow powder. So, on Thursday I made it my goal to find the perfect nude lipstick for my skintone.

So I bought 5 lip colours and 3 balms.

I’ll start with the goods: The Malibu Lip Balms are so nourishing for my lips. They make them so smooth. The flavours aren’t much to be honest, but that might just be that I can’t taste them or smell them properly as I have a cold! I bought this 3 pack from a bargain shop for like £1.50 & i’m so happy I did!

IMG_6864 IMG_6861

Next up is Maybelline’s colour sensational lipstick in the shade 710 sultry sand

This sells at boots for £6.99. I originally thought that this was going to make me look like a zombie looking really ill. I apply a little bit of this onto my lips and it gives just the perfect amount of colour. This just completes a natural look off! I love the packaging of this and the way it feels on my lips – nice & light/ moisturising.

w7 Lip Twister in PINK

w7 is a smaller brand that i’ve liked previously, so when I saw this lip liner in a nice nude shade I was keen to see if it was actually a nice nude liner!! 100% happy with this! This is my lips but better. It matches my lip colour and fills in my icky lip scar! This costed me about £1.99. It glides onto the lips smoothly and so far has lasted well on the lips!

Beauty UK lip lust in no.3 date night

This is the best lip product that I have ever bought. It was £1. Let’s just read that again and absorb the information. It was £1. This has a spongey applicator and you squeeze the tube and a bit of colour and gloss comes out. I had glosses with a passion. They’re ALWAYS too sticky or too pigmented or whatever…. This? This is perfect. This, to me, feels as light as vaseline on the lips. The shade is a perfect neutral colour for my lips so I will 100% be wearing this everyday!

IMG_6874 IMG_6875 IMG_6872 IMG_6871

Next up are 2 MUA products. the Power Pout Acrylic in the shade unwrapped

which sells for £3. I applied this normally, like how I would any other lip product, and this was horrible! Far too thick, far too pigmented and far too cakey! But, I find that when I am wearing lipbalm underneath it and dab 1 or 2 dots of the product onto my lips and blend it in with the lip balm using my finger. This makes it look ok – i’m not fussed, but I do try and find a plus side to all products I buy as I hate waste!

IMG_6877 IMG_6876

Lastly is the lipstick in ‘barely there‘. Do not buy this. This is disgusting. This is thick and chalky and pale and goes into all the fine lines in your lips. Do not buy this. For £1 it’s not too much of a miss, but I am very disappointed in MUA as I usually love their products!

So those are all my new lippies! Any that you recommend I try? If so i’d love to hear about them!

Sorry for the lack of posts, I swear i’ll try to do more!

May Favourites

So I promised myself, at the start of the year, that I would post monthly favourites each month this year. During the end of May I was focusing on finishing my ‘top 5’ series and forgot all about the Monthly Favourites posts… (My bad!) But, as I always say… Better late than never, eh?

All My Favourites

So I have 10 products and 1 brush to talk about for last month! Some of them are recurring faves and others are new ones!

My Favourite EyesLeft>>Right

Large angled brush, Makeup Gallery (Nude 2), Maybelline (Big Eyes Mascara), Makeup Revolution (Aqua Seal) Mac (prolongwear paint pot) Catrice (absolute eye colour mono)

So i’ve been loving using a larger angled brush to apply my eyeshadow colour. I find it much easier (& quicker too) to apply my brow colour & shape. I got this as part of a makeup brush set that I purchased earlier this year off ebay.

I have been using my Makeup Gallery (Nude 2) as a base to set my primer and to help brighten up my looks. This is the perfect creamy colour for nude makeup looks. This makeup brand is sold in Poundland (For £1 obviously).

My Maybelline Big Eyes Mascara has been used every day in May! I have loved it so much. It is perfect for long lashes making your lashes look the best you’ve ever been! I apply the upper lash wand from root to tip on my upper lashes, meanwhile I just apply the lower lash wand to the roots of my lower lashes to prevent spidery lashes! This duo mascara is £8.99, but Maybelline often do offers.

Makeup Revolution Aqua Seal primer is one that has been regularly used in the month of May. I found it weird getting used to using this one because i’ve never really used such a liquidy product on my lids! For £3 this is amazing! It is probably the best primer that i’ve ever used also! Makeup Revolution is a new favourite drugstore brand of mine & I recommend it to everyone! 🙂

Mac Prolongwear paint pot in Chrome Angel is one that just can’t be forgotten about in my Makeup routine! I like to use lighter eyeshadow bases to make any colour put ontop of it ‘pop’. Also, because I use matte eyeshadows so often, this helps to lighten up the look… yenno, not make it look so dull? I know that £15.50 does sound a bit steep, but i’ve had this about a year and a half, use it regularly and haven’t even hit pan on it yet! So, not so bad.

Catrice Absolute Eye Colour Mono in Starlight Expresso is the perfect shade to turn any look into a smokey eye. I like to apply this to my crease along with a creamy colour under. I basically use this everyday for a natural eye! I bought this 2 years ago and finally hit pan! This costs around £5 and is worth every penny!

My Favourite Lips Left >>Right L’oreal Collection Exclusive, The Body Shop lip butter, The Body Shop stick lip balm, Rimmel Exaggerate lip liner

L’oreal Paris Colour Rich Exclusive Nudes in Juliane is such a lovely nude. It glides on effortlessly just finishing off your look. I love the sleek packaging off this too. This one costs just £6.99 and the exclusive nudes range has 6 different shades, so you’re likely to find the perfect one to suit you!

The body shop lip butter in strawberry is such a nourishing, tasty balm that hydrates your lips in just one use! It is also so creamy and the lip butters come in many different flavours too! This costs £4, but I tend to only purchase the body shop products when on sale (which is often too!)

The Body Shop Born Lippy lipbalm – Strawberry is another perfect lip balm from the body shop. It applies only a little hint of colour, which I like! The scent is strong and is so tasty on the lips. This costs £3, but again, this is often on sale so I only buy it when reduced!

Rimmel London has done it again with another brilliant liner. This one is a lip liner which is the perfect product for under your nude lippy! This is in East End Snob and costs only £3.99. It is so creamy and is perfect for every day lips.

Sugar & Spice Palette

Makeup Revolution is in my monthly favourites again! This ultra blush palette in Sugar & Spice, for £6, has the best blushers that i’ve ever used. They are so soft and creamy to touch and blend so beautifully. You only need the tiniest bit of product on your brush because each shade is so pigmented. In this there are 2 highlighters, 1 contour and 5 blushers.

So those are my favourites of May. I know this was a little late … or very late… but, what can you do?

Nude Lipsticks (Drugstore)

Nude lipsticks are such gems in anyone’s makeup bag! If you don’t want to go for a statement lippy look, then it’s nice just to have an extra something on the lips! So over the past few months i’ve been experimenting with different brands and different tones of nude lippys and here are my favourite 5!

Kate Moss 08 2  Kate Moss 08

Rimmel London Kate Moss Lasting Finish – 08 £5.49

The Kate Moss lipstick range has widely loved products, both her matte and non-matte finished ones. Honestly, I wasn’t a huge fan of her matte lipstick in the shade 107, so I was skeptical picking this one up. But, this soft nude colour was a complete winner! This is the perfect for my lips! I believe it is a dupe for one of the mac lipsticks, twig. So if you’re wanting the quality, but not the hole in the pocket, then pick this one up!

Kate Moss 28 2 Kate Moss 28

Rimmel London Kate Moss Lasting Finish 28 £5.49

So this is kind of a pinkier nude. One swipe of this and you have a gorgeous pinky sheen to your lips, 2 swipes and you have a much more girly look! I’m not so sure which mac lippie this is a dupe for, but i’m almost certain it has one!

Moisture renew 2 Moisture Renew Latino

Rimmel London Moisture Renew Latino £6.49

This is a lovely deeper nude. It’s like a blushed pink? A dusky pink? I suck at describing things hahaha! Basically this applies onto the lips really nicely and leaves a hint of colour which can be built up if you like! I love the finish of all 3 rimmel lipsticks mentioned, their texture is nice, it sits on the lips lightly without drying them out and the finish of each is perfect!

Collection exclusive Juliane Juliane 2

L’oreal Paris Colour riche exclusive nudes Juliane £6.99

This is another softer nude. I feel it is a really muted pink, so it’s nice with a bit of a pinker/nude lip liner underneath. This has such a lovely smooth finish which really feels more high end! Good job, L’oreal!

High Shine Lip Crayon 2

No.7 High Shine Lip Crayon £9

So I got this in a gift package and the colour isn’t labelled on it, so i’m not sure which this is. But, this is such a lovely crayon. It has a shiny finish which wears into a velvety one. Doesn’t dry my lips out and is the perfect everyday nude.

So those are my top 5 nude lippies to date. I’d love to know which ones you like and if there are any other brands I should try out? I’m going shopping on Friday and may find myself picking up a few more!

Thanks for reading,

My Top 5; Lipsticks

Lipsticks are a complete newbie in my makeup collection. I feel as though they can truly ‘complete’ a makeup look… face done, eyes done … but the lips are left plain… looks a bit weird.. yenno?

Anyway, so here are my ‘top 5’ lipsticks. (I cheated again and did 6 on technicalities)

Red Essential

Maybelline Colour Drama; Red Essential  £4.99

I have been really loving this range from Maybelline New York. They apply so smoothly and stay on all day! they have a nice creamy feeling, but once they’re on the lips they barely budge! The Maybelline Colour Drama lipsticks are my favourites for lips! This one, Red Essential is the horizontal swatch. It is the perfect deep red! 🙂

Keep it Classy

Maybelline Colour Drama : Keep it Classy £4.99

I like this as a deep nude colour? It is kinda like a ‘your lips but better’ product! 🙂 This is nice for a not-so OTT finish!

Berry Much

Maybelline Colour Drama ; Berry Much £4.99

I love this one. For those who like a bit of purple in their lips this is perfect! I’d say this is more plum than purple, but you know what I mean! It is a nice combo of red and plum for a more vampy look.

wine autograph

M&S Autograph ; Wine £3?

So i’m not sure if this one is still available? I got this last Christmas in the sales for about £3.. It is a very moisturising red wine colour… I like this for darker looks! 🙂

Collection 02 Tallulah

Collection Deluxe ; Tallulah 02  £2.99

For me, the freakishly pale person, this is a perfect nude! For such a cheap price it is amazing! It glides onto the lips with ease and has a nice moisturising feeling on the lips! This does have to be reapplied a lot throughout the day though… A bit of lip liner under it helps this though!

Cotton Candy

Collection Cream Puff ; Cotton Candy £2.99

This is my kinda, but not so much lipstick. This is more of a lip stain, but I love it and have to include it! This applies as a cream but then dries in pretty quickly. It stays on your lips all day and is such a lovely your-lips-but-better product. I really like this and 100% recommend it!

Here’s a lil sneak peek into tomorrow’s post;;

So keep an eye out for it! 🙂

So, I hope you enjoyed reading! I’d like to know what your favourite lipsticks/lipstick brands you like?

My top 5: Lip Glosses

All together

Hi friendies! So recently I’ve been trying out different lip products. I’ve only recently been becoming a fan of lipsticks and even more recently been becoming a fan of lip glosses! There is one lip gloss which I reallly loved, but it got discontinued quite a long time ago. It was from the brand miss sporty. Ever since, I just haven’t found a gloss just as good! So I gave up after a while, but recently I have been keeping an eye out on a few!

Also, i have 6 in this ‘top 5’ but, I don’t think one REALLLLLY counts, but i’m putting it in just because it is glossy and I do love it! So anyway, on with the products:

Rimmel London: Oh My Gloss £5.49

This one, out of the 6 is my least favourite. Nonetheless, I do think it’s a really great product. The only reason why i’d say this is the one I like least is because of the texture – A little thick and i’d almost say… tacky feeling? Its scent is almost like honey? It too is a little off-putting as I personally find it a little sickening. It has a clear colour which is perfect to just add a gloss onto a lipstick! The applicator is a stretched out doe foot which makes it easy to apply the product. An advantage of this gloss is that it is enriched with argan oil, so it is very nourishing and hydrating. The colour of this is called ‘Crystal Clear’

Makeup Revolution: Amazing Lipgloss £1

The shade of this is ‘raspberry’ which I think is just nice for a light sheen of colour on your lips. the texture is thick, but only very slightly tacky, which I really like. The colour is perfect just for a nice little hint and a perfect sheen on the lips. Meanwhile the applicator is the basic doe foot applicator typically found in glosses.

MUA: Intense Kisses High intensity gloss £2

I have this in the shade named Smooch. The scent of this is a nice soft vanilla. Although the product has little specs of glitter, the texture is pretty smooth and I can’t say that I personally can feel the glitter unlike how you can feel it having a pretty gritty texture in other glittered glosses. The colour is a lovely coral tint which applies very easily with the sponged doe foot applicator.

Maybelline: Colour Sensational Gloss £6.19

The shade of this is ‘Glamorous Grapefruit‘. The scent is a really lovely fruit jelly kinda smell and the texture is gorgeous too – it sits on the lips perfectly and isn’t at all sticky! The colour is a corally-pink which gives a good tint too. The applicator is a small, slim doe foot which applies this dreamy product with ease!

L’oreal : Infallible mega gloss £6.99

I have this one in the shade ‘Girls on top‘. I love the sweet scent of this. The texture is the thick, kinda moisturising feeling? The colour is a nice creamy pink which is a nice nude. My favourite thing about this gloss however has to be the bent doe foot. It applies the product really nicely and is just fun to have such a unique applicator on such a commonly used product! 🙂

The body shop

The Body Shop – Born Lippy £3

So I got this one in the colour ‘Raspberry’. The texture is a lovely light glossy feeling on the lips – not at all sticky with a small amount, but if you like a thicker product you can just apply a bit more and you’re there! The colour is very sheer, but a little tint of dark pink. However, unlike the other glosses, this comes in a tub, so you apply this typically with your finger, but can also be applied with a brush if you prefer. I do love this one, so I added it to my fave glosses!

So I hope you’ve enjoyed reading! I would love to know about your favourite glosses, if you want to mention them below in the comments, I’d love to try them out! 🙂
