My Warm Shadows

So I was in Boots last month with my bestie (irrelevant info, but JUST SO YOU KNOW I’M NOT ALWAYS BY MYSELF…) and there’s a new Makeup Obsession counter in the Boots in Liverpool (near my uni). So obviously I approached in a calm and sophisticated manner, completely controlling my overwhelming excitement. (don’t read this in a judgey way, you all know the feeling!!) So here i am, standing at the new makeup stand and see eyeshadows being sold for £2 and face powders for £3. (wtf?)

I’ve been trying to stop buying makeup that i already have, yenno, too much makeup, don’t need more! BUT, I have 0 warm shades. Swear, last few years cool tones have been the thing, am i right or am i right??? So I had a wee nosey to see if they had any warm browns. Wasn’t even looking overly exciting colours, just wanted the shadows to do a nice wee warm smokey neutral eye!

Long story short, I picked up these 3 shades; E101 Burnt, E141 Alba && E124 Copper. The quality of each of these is average to good… if you get me? Not overly creamy, but blend in nicely enough.

Alba is the most neutral of them all. I like this for a simple look/as a base. Copper is then nice to add to the crease as a wee transition shade and then Burnt is a bright red shade which i add to the crease to warm up a smokey look. All shades are matte.

Below are some swatches to give you a wee idea of how the actually look.

Alba>Copper>Burnt

Anddd here’s just a look i did with copper & alba with the paler shades in the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette.

So thankuu for reading! Have you got any good warm shadow recommendations to moi?

Protect your Skin this Summer!

Hi all, this is a topic which i care a lot about and it completely infuriates me the ignorance people have in relation to it; Any form of skin pigment change is skin damage. Basically, everyone agrees that burnt skin is damaging to your skin, but it’s frightening how few see the same for tanned skin.

Tanned skin is often seen as ‘beautiful’ and desirable, but that golden colour is a result of epidermis injury (the top layer of your skin). Exposure to UV rays accelerates the effects of both ageing and also your risk of developing skin cancer – Neither of which are ‘beautiful‘ or desirable.

So, if that doesn’t scare you enough, how about some statistics?

  • People who first use a tanning bed before age 35 increase their risk for melanoma by 75 percent.
  • Melanoma, the most deadly skin cancer, is now one of the most common cancers in young adults aged 15-34 in the UK.
  • Over 80% of all skin cancers are caused by over-exposure to the sun and/or sun beds
  • Like most cancers, skin cancer is more common with increasing age, but malignant melanoma is disproportionately high in younger people. More than one-third of all cases of malignant melanoma occur in people aged under 55.
  • Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK.

I think 5 will do…

So what can you do to protect your skin?

Basically it’s really simple; Cover up! Obviously when it’s warmer we tend to wear less clothes, so try wearing lighter layers and most importantly, COVER yourself in suncream and do this regularly. Your suncream should be a minimum SPF of 15. If you’re going to be moving about, try a water-resistant one. There are soooo many suncreams you can choose from and in a range of  formulas: Stick, cream & spray. You can get some that smell amazing and others which are scentless!

Some of my favourites are:

Image result for nivea sun cream                    Image result for sun cream garnier

Nivea sun protect & moisture spray   Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Lotion

Image result for stick sunscreenImage result for malibu sunscreen

Neutrogena Beach Defense Stick           Malibu lotion spray (smells amazing)

The kind of rule that i go by is factor 50 on my face, using a cream sunscreen and factor 30 on the rest of my body, either spray or lotion. Also, obviously having a tan is desired by so so many, but you can achieve this safely by getting a spray tan or by using self-tanners. I like to use the gradual ones by brands Dove and Johnsons.

So what if you do get burnt/tanned?

Apply aloe vera onto the damaged skin. Initial research has shown aloe vera aids the skin in healing from sunburns. In addition, aloe vera oil can moisturize the skin, helping you avoid the peeling normally associated with sun damage. I like to keep this in the fridge to make it soo much nicer when applying to burnt/tabbed skin.

Any form of ‘aftersun’ will help moisturise the skin and also cool it down.

Use a good moisturiser.

So i hope this wasn’t too much of a rambly post. Please protect your skin! Hope you have an amazing Summer!

Revisiting oldies

Hi all, hope you’re enjoying this laavely weather we’ve been having (Those in the UK, you get it). Today when i was getting ready i decided to have a go with products that seemed to find themselves being set aside. I don’t think i have a reason really for why these were put aside, probably just i started using newer products. (should also say now that the eyeshadows weren’t products that were rediscovered, they’re newbies!)

So, which products did I use && what do i think of them now?

So i’ll start with what i started with;

Miss Sporty InstaGlow primer

This primer is a pink-toned shimmery liquid. It doesn’t have a powdery/matte finish, more of a slightly tacky product. I applied this onto clean skin with no moisturiser as i remember it could go bally combined. Applied nicely today though.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless 105

This isn’t a completely matte foundation and is a little dark, but blends in easily. It has reasonably good staying power and don’t feel it overly needs set. I quite like this and will deffo use it up, but unlikely buy another.

L’oreal Infalliable Sculpt contouring palette

I actually have been really enjoying this one lately. It’s nice and creamy, but has a cream-to-powder finish. V easy to blend and the paler shade is matte, so nice for a natural finish. The paler shade can also be used to lighten the contour. Nice cool tone as well, so perfect for contouring.

Natural Collection Dusky Pink Blusher

This is a product i will always go back to. It has such a lovely soft blushed shade which is easy to wear… on pale skin anyway… It blends in perfectly and doesn’t kick up too much dust.

Technic Get Gorgeous Highlighter

I love this one. It is the perfect amount of glow and shimmer and everything you would want for an everyday highlighter. So easy to apply and easy to build up. Laaaaaavely. Super cheap as well, you should deffo try this one out.

Freedom brow pomade

This one can be q difficult to use, you only need a small amount on your brush. I think this is easiest to use with a small-bristled brush and wipe off excess product in the lid. It has good staying power and gets a lot easier to use the more you practice.

Soap & Glory It’s about prime

I actually really like this one. Makes a nice base and makes everything look more glowey. Laaaaaavely. I won’t be repurchasing this one as i prefer cream eyeshadows to liquid ones. Easy to apply and is very good though, definitely one to pick up if you prefer liquid primers.

Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette

I used the shimmery shade, Skimp and the 2 matte ones were cover and primal. These were used in the crease area. These blend out soooo nicely and are perfect for brown eyes. You can’t really see ‘Skimp’, but it does make a lovely base for your eyes.

Makeup Obsession Eyeshadow E124, Copper && E141, Alba

I actually recently got these 2 eyeshadows simply because of how warm toned they are. These blend so nicely and warm a look up really nicely. Also, for only £2 a piece you should deffo give them a go!

L’oreal Superliner; Black

I stopped using this everyday simply because of how non-waterproof it is. If you have watery eyes i really don’t recommend it. It has good pigmentation and is ok for standard liner, but don’t recommend it for winging it out. Won’t be repurchasing this one once it runs out.

Collection Supersize mascara

img_9422

I love this mascara. Gives my eyelashes gorgeous volume and length and layers really nicely. I highly recommend this one. Will deffo be repurchasing soon! (the bottom mascara with pink lid)

Soap & Glory; Naked Beige

This is the perfect cool toned brown lipstick. Feels really comfortable on the lips, a nice satin finish. Pretty sure the brand discontinued this one though. I like to use this one for everyday kinda looks. Swatch is below the black liner.

AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand the finished look. The camera kinda washed me out, so you can’t properly see what the eyeshadow looks like, my bad.

So hope you enjoyed reading this. Will hopefully be back posting a bit more soon. Hope you have a lovely weekend!

April Favourites/empties

Well hello there! Got a monthly favourite post for ya. Got a good few products which i was loving in the months of Marsh andApril, so let’s see what they were!

I’ll start of with one that i rarely talk about – face and hair products:

No.7 is well known for its brilliant skincare products. I’ve use this cleansing lotion after washing my face with another product (which will be talked about in a post coming up soon) I apply like 10 pumps onto my face, leave it for like a minute to work its magic and then wash off with water and pat dry with a towel. My skin has definitely become much more smooth and this gets off all of my makeup without fail. I’ve been using this every night, mostly to use it up before i go home for Summer. I don’t honestly think i’ll buy another after this is used up however, simply because it’s just an extra step which i don’t overly see the need for.   I’d much rather use a foaming cleanser than a creamy one.

Garnier Ultimate Blends coconut scented shampoo is gorgeousssssss. This lathers up so nicely in the hair and leaves it smelling tropical afterwards. Will deffo be repurchasing next time at the shops, if not this specific one then another from the ultimate blends range.

Finally i used up Neutrogena’s grapefruit facial wash. This is nice enough, lathered up nicely, took my makeup off and left my skin feeling fresh in the shower. I won’t be repurchasing this however, simply because i’ve found another cleanser which suits my skin type better.

Oh my sweet mother of God have i enjoyed each of these products this month??? (yes, yes i have). I’ll start with the highlighter, by technic. This is the best highlighter for pale skin that i have ever used. This is so easy to apply. Whether this be with your fingers, a compact brush or a fan brush, it blends in so effortlessly into the skin and leaves you looking so glowey-from-within. WOW! This was so cheap as well. Deffo deffo recommend to you.

Next i’ll talk about the Boutique bronzer. I got this from Sainsbury’s like last February. I wasn’t overly fussed about it back then though. I picked this back up in about December and fell in love. I think i’ve gotten better at applying this kind of product and now it’s one that i can’t go out without using! Think i got this for about £10, not overly sure. Definitely recommend this though, not too pigmented and easy to work with. Really really love it!

The Maybelline Fit Me stick foundation is the next foundation i have moved on to for me to finish up. Have to say though, it is really very good. It’s a quick and easy product to apply. Just a few swipes on the face, some extra ones in the problem areas and blend out with either my fingers or a beauty sponge. This gives a medium to full coverage (if wanted), which i really like. Deffo recommend this one to people who like a quick product to use. This will be packed for my Summer holiday.

The tools above have been v much enjoyed this month. I like the Real Techniques powder brush to buff in some powder to set the foundation while i like their miracle complexion sponge to give a natural finish to my foundation.

Blurry photo, apologies. Here i have Natural Collection’s brow pencil, Maybelline’s linerefine liner, collection’s supersize fat lash mascara and Miss sporty’s waterproof liquid liner.

Natural Collection’s brow pencil is the best brow product i’ve used, period. £1.99 for the perfect colour, not too waxy and not too stiff; perfect. Think there are 3 shades also, one for blondes, black hair and brunettes.

Maybelline’s linerefine eyeliner is really nice to add to the waterline to smoke it out. Probs won’t repurchase, but nice while it lasts. Just pulls a look together though, nice nice nice.

Lastly Miss Sporty’s waterproof liner is the best liner i’ve ever bought. This is so easy to apply, has the perfect thin nib and the formula is 100% waterproof. Recommend this over any that i’ve tried. This is one of the few products which i am 100% repurchasing; why get something which mightn’t be as good, it’s less than £3?!??!

Collection’s Fat Lash has actually been really nice to use. I bought this a while ago as a 3 for 2 sale in Superdrug because i was out of mascara, so wasn’t expecting overly much. But yaaa, only really need one coat for thick and lengthy lashes. Definitely recommend this to those on a budget.

Since i started to grow my nails i’ve been painting them a good bit. I do prefer just having a nice wash of colour though, nothing too out-there, so soft pinks are my comfort zone. Here are 2, one from rimmel and one from a random company, High Brow. Got both in B&M bargains dead cheap. The highbrow one is more pigmented while the rimmel one is just a wash of colour and adds shine. Like them both though. Recommend both, if you see them about.

OoOoOo, another random one for me! My mum sent me a wee care package around St. Patrick’s Day (yes i’m Irish, so everything was green and chirpy). In this package of green goodies was a vaseline tin. It has been YEARSSSSSSSSS since i used these. In fact, i can tell you how many; 8 years. 8 years ago, when i was at the start of highschool. I just phased out of using this and got more into wearing chapsticks. Have to say though, really been enjoying this. It applies a nice wee bit of shine and is a nice lipstick topper.

Next up is my Marc Jacob’s Daisy perfume. I’ve loved this for yearsssssssss. Haven’t been using a lot of it since going to uni, simply because haven’t overly felt the desire nor need to. This month i have been though, probably because of the brighter mornings and sunnier days. More in the mood!

Lastly is my roll-on deodorant by Dove. Keeps me smelling fresh and dry all day and doesn’t stain my tops. Anything else i need to say?

Lastly is my Revolution 144 Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette Collection. This was mentioned in a previous post in a bit better detail with some swatches earlier this week, read here. As you can see, i’ve done some ‘x’ marks over some eyeshadows, this is so i can remember which i like the most. Working my way through the palette quite well, especially in these brighter days, just motivating me to wear shimmery and glittery shadows.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd those were my favourites. What have you liked these past few months? Have you tried any of these products? What did you think?

Thanks for reading,

Cosmopolitan’s hot for Spring & Summer

So i thought it would be cool to see what the fashion and beauty lords (Cosmopolitan) were saying was ‘in’ this Spring/Summer. I’m not one to typically follow these trends, no not in a ‘hipster’ kinda way, more just of an ‘i know what suits me and what doesn’t’ kinda way. But, i’ll look through what is ‘in’ this and next season and see if there’s anything i can try! As there are 60 different looks, i think i’ll just comment on the 10 things which interest me.

So, #1 Shiatzy Chen

Basically applying glitter under the eyelids. Honestly, i think this just looks a bit naff – even on the model. Maybe a bit of glitter under a cat-flick eyeliner look, but definitely not beneath my waterline.

#2 Missoni

Have to say i actually really like this idea, i did it a while ago, may do it again this Summer! Cute way to add interest to your hair! I’d only really do little braids though, not really as big as this model has them.

#3 Fendi

 Glitter lips?!?! Nooooo. How uncomfortable?!

#4 Blurmarine

Basically, lots of glow! All for this, especially for Summer/Spring time. Have to say i much prefer glow to glitter highlighters.

#5 DKNY

This is basically just having dark lips during the warm months. Not sure about this one, bit much for the brighter days, no? Maybe more of a night time look?

#6 Giambattista Valli

Basically, clean-cut red lip with minimal makeup. Have to say i quite like the look of this. Perhaps shall try this with a cherry red lip and copper shadow.

#7 Elie Saab

I loooove this look! Basically, outer third of the eye lined with a bit of a cat flick. Will deffo be trying this.

#8 Givenchy

Going to do a big ‘HM’ here. Don’t get this at all, looks a litttttle bit ridiculous, no?

#9 Luisa Beccaria

Really like this minimalist look with just a swipe of shimmer on the lids. Will give this a go. I imagine with this i would do big lashes.

#10 Moncler Gamme Rouge

I like the concept of this glossy minimalist look, but not she looks a bit dead? Maybe with a bit of a pinky lip or something?

So those were 10 of the 60 looks found in Cosmo’s Spring/Summer 2017 hair and makeup trends. Maybe i’ll do another post of the way i tried out some of these looks! Hope you enjoyed reading this one, are there any looks that you like the look of?

My opinion vs Youtube

So we all have seen the ‘my drugstore/highstreet favourite makeup products’ videos by our favourite youtubers. So i thought i would watch a few and see if any matched mine/ any that i had a different experience with, so let’s get on with it, eh? (What works for one may not for another)

Image result for real techniques

  • Real Techniques Brushes/Applicators

Have to agree with this one; mostly. The most talked about one was the beauty sponge that they do. I love this, especially when dampened. Applies all foundation in a flawless way!

Image result for rimmel foundations

  • Rimmel Foundations

This i agree with, they are brilliant for paler skins and have a range of different formulas depending on what you want. However, did not like the wake me up foundation – it has literal glitter chunks in it????Not for me, thankyou.

Image result for l'oreal true match foundation

  • L’oreal true match

I bought this ages ago. All that needs to be said is that I finished it, but haven’t and probably won’t be in a rush to repurchase it. It was ok, just didn’t overly impress me. Too liquid-y. Feel it highlighted dry areas around my nose also.

Image result for bourjois healthy mix foundation

  • Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation

Definitely loved this one. Lovely smell, relatively cheap and sat beautifully on my skin. Only comes in a few shades though, but matches mine nicely. Nice glowey finish on the skin. This will be one that i will buy again, soon, soon.

Image result for collection lasting perfection concealer

  • Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

I just haven’t had the same experience most seem to have had with this one. I just found this really cakey, didn’t blend whatsoever and didn’t match my skintone. Perhaps it has changed its formula – i have seen it does a lighter shade now, so may try this one again?

Image result for sleek contour kit

  • Sleek contour palette

Nope, too dark for pale skin, doesn’t blend at all. Highlighter is clumpy and doesn’t do much?? Nope nope nope. V disappointed in this.

Image result for Bodyshop bronzer

  • The Body Shop Bronzer

Have to agree with this one, really enjoyed this one for my pale skin, nice and light. Will definitely be using this again over the summer months as it is a bronzer, not a contour; if you get me.

Image result for sleek eyeshadow palette

  • Sleek eyeshadow palletes

This i have to agree with. The pigmentation is so nice. So buttery and easy to blend in. A bit expensive though, but if you have the money deffo worth it. Think they do a good few unique shades too that you wouldn’t find elsewhere! I really like their shimmery and matte shades. Reallyyyyy niiiice.

Image result for maybelline brow

  • Maybelline brow pencils

I used to agree with this, it was my first brow product that i used. I think that i’ve just started to find better products since. I find this a bit too waxy for me now.

Image result for l'oreal felt tip eyeliner

  • L’oreal felt tip liners

Nooooooooo. For me this smudges everywhere! Not at all waterproof, impossible to have anything stay on my lids personally. It has great pigmentation, great nib and is v easy to use, just the formula completely lets it down for me. Maybe it is just the one that i used though, perhaps there are other l’oreal felt tip liners which are more waterproof.

Image result for Barry m lip liner

  • Barry M Lip Liners

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas. I love the lipliner that came with the lipkit duo thing that i got a while back. It is so creamy and easy to use. One of my most-reached for lip liners. They’re cheap as well, definitely agree with this one!

Related image

  • Rimmel Lip Liners

Has to be my favourite of the lip liners that i have. I love their shade range and the creaminess of the products. Love the twist up liners and also the sharpening ones. 100% recommend these and prefer them the the mac ones also.

Image result for kate moss lipsticks

  • Rimmel Kate Moss Lipsticks

I’m Neutral on these actually. Some i like, others i think are just meh. Lipsticks are very personal i think though. Depends what shade, finish etc. you’re looking for. There have been a good few that i just didn’t like at all; the shimmery ones, and some that i lovvveeee; the brown/neutral (shade 48) toned ones. Although they’re cheap enough, i just am not overly drawn to rimmel for lipsticks.

Image result for Nyx matte lipcream

  • NYX Matte Lip Creams

yenno what, i’m not overly fussed. I only have 2; a berry red and a brown matte. They sit ok on the lips, don’t overly fully set, a factor which i don’t like. The shade range is massive though, so you will probably find something that tickles your fancy. Just not really the brand that i would go to for liquid lipstick though.  I hear the Sand Storm liquid lippy is good though, so might try it out.

So I hope you enjoyed this kind of post? Just thought it would be cool to hear a range of opinions on products. Are there any of these which you’ve used/have an opinion on? Please comment below! Good to hear a range of opinions!

Finishing products off – Like or hate?

Let’s get back into the swing of things, or at least try. Hello my lovely lovely reader, hope you’re having a brilliant week and a good 2017. It’s getting close to Summer, which i think is really exciting as i’m going on le holidays to Madeira with the lovely boyfriend! (Eeeeek!) Have you got any plans for your summer yet?

Over the past month i’ve really condensed my makeup collection to my absolute favourites, simply because i’ve got way too much which just sits in my drawer. I did this by using up older products and also giving things to friends. So I thought i’d talk about the products which i did use up and have reintroduced myself to and whether or not i’ll repurchase when they are finished.

SO: WHAT have i used?

IMG_9328

I’ve been using the primer again, which i’ve found can go quite bally under certain foundations, which is quite annoying. The Fit me matte and poreless is ok, but it’s a fraction too dark for my skin, so i’m going to use it over the Summer. I finished the Super Stay by Maybelline, i actually really enjoyed using it, but made sure i had my skin v moisturised before applying it because it kinda showed flaky skin where i didn’t even know i had it! (I don’t think i’ll buy this one again). The MUA Matte foundation i got very annoyed with. It was a good shade for pale skin, but it was SOOOOOOOO oily on me and i just didn’t understand why!! This was a product i gave to a friend. Never got along with the Benefit Boi-ing concealer, so gave it away as it was too heavy and really showed up dry areas on my skin. Lastly, I like the Miss Sporty Perfect Stay concealer, but it is a littttle bit too orange toned for me. I do like it, but will most likely not buy it again.

IMG_7285

I’ve been using the Soap & Glory It’s About Prime eyeshadow primer every day underneath my shadow as i’m determined to finish it. I bought this a few years ago and did like it. It is an OK product, i genuinely don’t mind it. I have just found so many better products which i prefer now, one of which being the creme de rose colour tattoo by maybelline (That’s not the one seen in the picture aboveeee). But, I swear i will finish this Soap & Glory primer by the time i’m moving out of uni. (Have until start of June!)

IMG_7282

I never really actually got into Sleek’s face kit thing. The contour was too dark, didn’t like the blusher and the highlighter was only ok. I’m probably just too pale for this palette, i’ve heard many rave about this palette, personally i just don’t think it’s at all worth the hype. Gave this to a more tanned friend of mine, hope she has better luck with it.

10557443_892035257481526_1028078837510250894_n

The Real Technique’s Contour brush – the brush to the left, has been passed on to a friend. I don’t understand this brush. This shouldn’t be used for contour!!! This is much too dense, nobody wants a harsh contour, surely??? Just didn’t get along with this brush at all, much prefer a small fluffier brush to apply my contour/bronzer. Sorry Real Techniques!

Miss Sporty’s Waterproof Liquid Liner is one which i’m trying to finish. Have to say, I love this. Don’t know why i haven’t been using it prior to my makeup clearout. This stays on my eyes all day, no flakes, no smudges. It has the perfect felt tip nib which creates a pointed cat eye easily. You can buy this, in Superdrug, for less than £3. Seriously, give it a try! I will deffo repurchase when this is finished.

Think i’ll finish this post on that note, didn’t realise the amount of negative things i had to say about the other products – oops! So, look out for another post similar to this.

Thanks for reading!
